The Tooradin and District Sports Club About Us. |
|
| A Brief History of the Tooradin & District Sports Club. |
A gathering of people involved in various sporting activities in the district suggested a meeting be called, by invitation, of representatives from each sporting body in the district, to be held in the football club rooms on the 14th February 1976 to discuss the "ways and means of improving sporting facilities in the area and the possibility of the formation of a sporting type club."
This statement is inscribed on the original minutes book of the Tooradin & District Sports Club and encompasses the hopes, foresight and aspirations of a small group of individuals, who through their enjoyment of both sport and the local sporting clubs they belonged to, set in motion one of the most ambitious and successful projects embarked upon by a small community within this area.
This first meeting took place within the rooms of the sports pavilion at the Tooradin Recreation Reserve and was attended by seven delegates representing four sporting bodies from the Tooradin district. These seven individuals discussed the ways and means by which a small town could continue to improve the facilities for sport within the area, by combining the efforts of the major sporting bodies and channeling their endeavors towards a sports club which would ultimately serve and benefit all.
This was the begininning of the "Tooradin & District Sports Club." |
